BREAKING NEWS! Season of the Force Dates Announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

11225225_391314481064795_7330509822761647799_n   Disney has confirmed via WDW News Today that Star Wars: Season of the Force will come to Disney’s Hollywood Studios from January 8th, 2016 through March 20th, 2016. The special event event will have special food, drink, and merchandise offerings, as well as a special fireworks show on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Not many more specific details have been announced for it.

Also coming to the park will be the new StarWarsLaunchBay, which will be located in the old Magic of Disney Animation building, and a new scene for StarTours: The Adventure Continues, which is said to include characters and locations from the newest installment, Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. Both are expected to arrive in December.

SeasonOfTheForce WILL replace Star Wars Weekends in 2016. There is still no word if StarWarsWeekends will ever return.

So it sounds to me, as I suspected, that Season of the Force will sort of be to WDW that the event A Celebration of HarryPotter is to UniversalOrlando. The event is set during one of the slowest periods of the year to bring guests to the parks. For Disney, all we really have during that time is the cheerleader/dance completions, which brings many schools down, and a few 5K runs, but neither of those bring in the crowds like a major event does. Sure, it could be argued Star Wars Weekends was used for the same reason, but they were always in May and June, when the summer season is just beginning. With or without it, guests come on vacation during that time. Many times, SWW is more of a bonus then for guests, as opposed to specifically coming to WDW for the event. I’m not sure if I’m sad to see SWW go since we don’t really know what specially is coming with Season of the Force. Really, it sounds almost like the same event, just with a new name. And of course, don’t forget that there will no longer be Disneyfied Star Wars characters. Bye JediMickey. I’m sure you will be missed by many! What do you think? Excited for Season of the Force? Will you miss Star Wars Weekends?
