Disney officially announces Star Wars Launch Bay opening date, as well as new Star Wars activites

Shanghai_Disneyland_Star_Wars_Launch_Bay      Disney has announced the official opening date for the new Star Wars Launch Bay at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as new Star Wars experiences coming to the park! Beginning December 1, Guests will have the chance to dive deeper into the Star Wars universe and the upcoming film, Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

The Launch Bay will contain special behind the scenes exhibits and props from the newest film, special merchandise, as well as new character meet and greet opportunities with two of the series’ most popular characters: Chewbacca and Darth Vader!

SLB915900-615      Also beginning December first, a new adventure will be added to the Star Tours: The Adventure Continues attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  The new segment is inspired by the newest addition to the Star Wars saga, The Force Awakens.  During the first few months, Disney has said they will make sure every Guest who rides Star Tours will experience the new adventure.  After that, the ride will return to its normal operation and it will assign two adventures at random to every ride experience, including the new adventure.

But that’s not all!  Inside the ABC Sound Studio, which is usually home to temporary and seasonal offerings such as extended previews to upcoming Disney films, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi will be playing for Guests throughout the day.  The short feature will show scenes from all six Star Wars films. This will be a great way for anyone unfamiliar with the Star Wars saga to become acquainted with it before the new film comes out!

And finally, something many families will be happy to hear about is the CO8wfkqWoAAjUrAreturn of the Jedi Training Academy.  Re-opening in early December as Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, the younglings participating in the training will be taking to “the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple” where they will continue to face Darth Vader, as well as the Seventh Sister, a new villain from the Disney X D series, Star Wars Rebels.

Also previously announced, work will begin next in January on the 14-acre Star Wars Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  With this construction approaching fast, Disney did finally confirm my suspicions that Star Wars Weekends will not be returning to Hollywood Studios.  The new seasonal event, Season of the Force, will be replacing it indefinitely and most likely permanently.  I feel this is a pretty fair trade off since Star Wars Weekends were only for five weekends in May and June, and now the Season of the Force will be a full two months long, beginning January 8th and running every day until March 20th!  That’s a very long event.  Also keep in mind details have not been announced for the event yet for WDW.  I am most certainly looking forward to seeing what will be offered for this new event!
