Here’s How to Get That Coveted Purple Magic Band
I decided to check out the new D-Tech location inside the Space Mountain merchandise shop the other day, and I was not disappointed. Thanks to stores like Co-Op at Disney Springs in the Marketplace, I was already familiar with how D-Tech works. It is a way to personalize phone cases with Disney images, logos, and characters. What makes this new location so special is now Guests can personalize Magic Bands, which is fabulous.
Ever since the roll out of Magic Bands two years ago, Disney has been creating new ways to personalize them for each Guest. Guests could purchase MagicBandits, CoverBands, and MagicSliders as add-ons for the bands. Bandits are little pieces that can snap on the bands, like a charm bracelet, and vary from characters to park icons. The CoverBands are sleeves with designs on them, and Sliders slide directly onto the Magic Band, each with a different design. All usually come in sets of similar traits, such as villains, ride groupings, or parks, etc. Disney also began offering characters printed on the Magic Bands, which is a GREAT option. They even have rides such as the Haunted Mansion wallpaper on the Bands. (I’m still waiting for my Tower of Terror design.) This also gives them the chance to create seasonal specialty Bands, such as the recent Hocus Pocus band sold for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, and even Star Wars Weekends designs. But one thing everyone seemed to be wishing for was a purple Magic Band!
Well it has finally arrived, but exclusively at this D-Tech location! At the Space Mountain location, this D-Tech still has the option to create personalized phone cases for a base price of $36.96 and $44.95 if you’d like to add your name. It seems to have even more options for phone cases before, with new characters, including recent Disney movies, Pixar, and even Star Wars (they also have the classic Star Wars posters available for the cover design!), and even Disney Resort logos.
As for the Magic Bands, for a base price of $21.95, Guests get to choose their color and any one of the many designs available. As with most Disney offerings, the kiosk used to design your Magic Band or phone case is very user friendly. If anything, it’ll take you longer just to choose which design you want! When you’ve selected the character or design and color, it’ll then ask if you want to add your name onto the Magic Band. If you want to take the design to that level of personalization, the price is raised to $29.95. As you can see in the photo, the coveted purple Magic Band is finally available to Guests! However, you must purchase it through D-Tech and with a design on it. It is not available in plain purple or any other location.
It always seemed odd that purple was not an original color available for Magic Bands. The colors currently offered are Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and Gray. Hopefully, purple will eventually be added to the list, but until then, this D-Tech location is the only way to purchase it.
