REVIEW: Minnie’s Silver Screen Dine Brings Glamour and Glitz to Disney’s Hollywood Studios
It’s award season and I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the Oscars every year. It’s my Superbowl, if you will. So what does Walt Disney World do for this special season? Well, they have Minnie and Mickey throw a special dinner at Hollywood & Vine located inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Properly named, Minnie’s Silver Screen Dine, Guests get the chance to dine with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy with all of them dressed in their finest outfits!
In the past, Hollywood & Vine was only a character meal for breakfast with Disney Junior characters. Then, during one of the final Star Wars Weekends, a Star Wars character dinner was added with Mickey and friends dressed as Star Wars characters. It was clearly a smash hit and Disney knew they needed something else. So this past holiday season, Disney added a Christmas dinner with Minnie and friends, and now, the dinner will change seasonally throughout the year. The next themes are said to be for the Spring, hot Summer fun, and a Halloween themed dinner.
The dinner works as most character dining experiences do at Disney. When it is time to be sat, you line up outside the main door and wait for your chance to meet Mickey on the red carpet dressed in his best suit. Once you’ve had your picture taken, you are then seated and welcome to head to the buffet line after you give your drink order. The dining room is decorated with film designs on its pillars. Famous movie themes are heard over the speakers, such as the themes from Jaws, James Bond, and E.T. And your server hands you a paper film reel with the autographs of all of the characters on it. A great memento for anyone who collects signatures.
It’d been two years since I’ve dined at Hollywood & Vine and it was nice to see that some of their items stay the same, while new ones are introduced. The first portion of the buffet has multiple salads, peel ‘n’ eat shrimp cocktail, bread & pretzel rolls, and soup. One of the soups was a seafood bisque and it was fantastic. Then, on the main part of the buffet, they had garlic mash potatoes, fried shrimp, lobster and shrimp macaroni and cheese, baked salmon, a carving station, sweet potato casserole, gnocchi, among many other options. There really is something for everyone. (And you can even sample from the children’s buffet station with mac and cheese, mini corn dogs, and crispy chicken nuggets.)
After meeting with almost all of the characters, it was time for The Finale: dessert! One of the things Hollywood & Vine is known for is its chocolate fountain! Located behind the dessert bar, multiple dessert items, such as marshmallows and strawberries, are dipped in the chocolate that’ll definitely satisfy your sweets craving. Among the other dessert options are cookies, caramel cream puffs, mini German chocolate cake treats, a lemony mini cheese cake, and my favorite, mini red velvet cakes. Each are decorated one way or another, themed to the Silver Screen Dine dinner. Everything was delicious, but oh so hard to fit in after a full meal at the buffet!
We had a wonderful time at Hollywood & Vine. The restaurant has become one of my favorite buffets. The food is incredibly delicious and has something for everyone to enjoy, and with a full bar right next door at 50’s Prime Time Cafe, they have an excellent variety of beer as well. The dessert bar is fantastic and something you don’t always get at a buffet, at least not to this extent. (Yes, there are some others out there like this.) It was very fun to see Minnie and her friends dressed to impress and get a photo with each of them. I personally thing Goofy was my favorite of the night, but Donald sure did try to show off! By the end of dinner, we had time it perfectly and exited the restaurant right before the brand new Stars Wars’ Symphony in the Stars fireworks show began and we had prime viewing for it! An excellent way to end the night.
