BREAKING: Writer’s Stop to Become Sci-Fi Dine-In Lounge!
April 2nd, 2016 will forever live in infamy at Walt Disney World as D-Day when a large portion of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and its attractions will close to make way for construction to begin on Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. Among the list of attractions closing was Writer’s Stop, a small merchandise/coffee shop located right next to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater restaurant. Yesterday, Disney broke news that not only would it be closing, but it would be reopening on April 3rd at a Sci-Fi Dine-In Lounge for the popular restaurant right next door! According to WDWNT, for a limited time, Guests will be able to stop in while waiting for their table at Sci-Fi Dine-In and enjoy some pre-dinner drinks and appetizers.
Currently, the Writer’s Stop sells pastries, sweet snacks, frozen drinks, and coffee. As well as a variety of books and kitchen merchandise. It is a great location for Guests to sit and relax while enjoying their purchases, maybe even read a book. The new menu at the lounge will feature a warm pretzel with spicy mustard and cheese sauce, sugar spiced nuts, and a cheese platter. They will also be serving a selection of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.
The Writer’s Stop’s new hours of operation will be from 11:30am to one hour prior to closing time of the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. It is also said that the location will continue to act as a merchandise shop, which seems to be a bit of a contradiction for what they’re going for.
The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is one of five table-service restaurants at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It is themed after a 1950’s drive-in movie theater where Guests can sit in convertible cars and enjoy their meal while watching clips of B-roll horror films, old snack bar commercials, and Walt Disney himself. Writer’s Stop becoming a lounge is very similar to the Tune-In Lounge located within the 50’s Prime Time Cafe restaurant and will most likely become very popular among Guests since they are often waiting for their table outside of the restaurant. No word yet if the name will change to fit the theme of the restaurant better, but if it becomes a standard offering at the park, I would most certainly hope it does. Now if only we could get a major overhaul of the ABC Commissary quick-service restaurant…
