Halloween Horror Nights 26 – Everything You Need to Know

Here we are everyone!  One month away from the opening of what looks like an incredible year for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando.  It’s been a long summer of waiting to hear all of the announcements and we have not been disappointed.  Six IP houses and three originals, an up-charge house bringing us to an even ten.  Plus, we’re getting five scare zones and two shows again. Chance returns this year as our host and is getting her own house and scare zone. With the official HHN Twitter announcing they had decided to do all of the most requested houses this year,  it certainly sounds like it is going to be another season for the books!  I think the fans will be in love with everything they have to offer for this season.  Here is everything you need to know!

IP Houses

The Exorcist

Considered one of the scariest movies of all time and the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture, it makes you wonder why it’s only just now becoming a house!  In this house, you’ll find yourself walking through key moments of the film.  But these scenes won’t just be things to observe.  You’ll be surrounded and enveloped by them.  Add in a possessed girl waiting to attack at every chance and you’re sure to be praying for God to help you survive this house.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was one of the most shocking horror films ever made. People walked out of the theater mid-movie screaming from the horrific scenes.  The original film contained very little gore in it.  The story itself is more about the psychological fear of being stranded and held by this psychotic family of cannibals.  In this house, you’ll come face to face with Leatherface as he chases you around the dilapidated Texas farmhouse.  But who’s the real monster here, Leatherface or his family?

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is returning for yet another year making this the fifth year in a row! It comes as no shock having heard rumors they were locked into a multi-year contract for the show.  Instead of focusing on a single season, this years house  is going to touch on ALL six seasons of the show and is returning to one of sound stages, which sounds very promising!

This year, you’ll struggle to escape from Hershel’s barn, get reacquainted with the Governor’s macabre Walker collection, race through Terminus and end up in the sewers of Alexandria. We’re pulling all of the creepiest environments from our past mazes—like the horde of Walkers in the forest during a lighting storm, which always had guests running and screaming! Lastly, we tackle this past season, which upped the ante for all survivors. You’ll enter Alexandria from the nasty sewers and find yourself in the middle of the chaotic battle against the ferocious Wolves. And… don’t be surprised if the sounds of whistling Saviors follow you into the night.

Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield

Michael Myers is returning this year in an all new maze, Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield, which will show us more of the night HE came home.  The house will continue where the first left off, walking between the homes of ‪‎Haddonfield‬ before being once again attacked by Michael and forcing you to seek refuge in the Haddonfield Hospital! Working your way through the hospital, you’ll see key scenes from Halloween II recreated, before getting to witness Michael’s the explosive ending!

Christmas comes early as Universal unleashes KRAMPUS at HHN26. The dead of winter sets the stage for the terror that’s about to unfold one cold, dank and dreary Christmas Eve as the fabled anthropomorphic “half-goat, half-demon” horned creature emerges to terrorize those devoid of holiday spirit. In scenes lifted from the film, guests will navigate the dysfunctional Engel family home to encounter the evil ancient spirit of Krampus – the dark shadow of Saint Nicholas – and his band of Dark Elves and sinister Gingerbread Men, who cause the family to fight to see the light of day.

American Horror Story

House #9 is this years uber-maze will contain one of the most requested IPs for Halloween Horror Nights: American Horror Story.  Containing the seasons of Murder House, Freak Show, and Hotel, in this house, you’ll be confronted by the horrors that reside within the walls of the newly bought Harmon residence and evade the abominations that call it’s basement home.  You’ll witness the atrocities that befell many of the unfortunate souls of a roadside Freak Show and encounter Twisty, a maniacal and deformed clown performer. Lastly, you will check into the Hotel Cortez and unlock the domain of The Countess, as she ensures your stay is anything but pleasant. These three seasons will be vividly recreated in every detail – environments characters and moments.

Lunatics Playground 3D – You Won’t Stand A Chance

While Jack’s away, Chance has unleashed the horrors of her imagination. Her twisted delusions and reality are continuously blurred in a 3D playground of carnage. When the music box plays, the world shifts to her sinister theatre of the mind. But when the alarm starts ringing, Chance is thrown back into the brutal reality of her incarceration.

Ghost Town – The Curse of Lightning Gulch

When lightning strikes, the curse of Lightning Gulch comes to life and this ghostly town appears. These doomed souls—who once went searching for gold—found death and destruction. And now they seek others to join them. As thunder cracks, flashes of lightning will lead your way through this treacherous wild west nightmare. Good luck!

Tomb of the Ancients

An ancient evil has surfaced and immortal beings from the past have returned to rule mankind. It was only a matter of time until “The Ancient Ones” were unearthed. Now these makers of chaos are loose from the pits of hell—and the whole world will pay.

Up-Charge House

A project in the making for 8 years, The Repository will seamlessly blend custom virtual reality technology with immersive real-life storytelling bringing guests into the next dimension of horror experiences. Throughout this heart-pounding, psychological journey, guests’ most personal and intimate fears will be tested as they encounter real-life characters in highly themed physical environments, while working together in teams of four to uncover a paranormal mystery told through the use of the cutting-edge technology.

All of this is set in a centuries old warehouse where paranormal and supernatural artifacts have been collected and stored for hundreds of years. Recently though, the secretive organization behind this practice has installed state-of-the-art technology that allows spectral transportation into paranormal realms. Until now, the supernatural has infiltrated our world on occasions labeled “hauntings.” Now, and for the first time ever, we will send you across the SDP (spectral dark portal) directly into those terrifying environments. I wish you a safe journey because what happens to you on the other side is irreversible.

“The Repository” is an up charge house and can be purchased  for $49.99 plus tax, per person. It will be available to guests during all Halloween Horror Nights events, beginning Sept. 29 and running through Oct. 31.  Universal Orlando Annual Passholders can purchase tickets beginning August 16.  Tickets for the general public will be on sale beginning August 23. Halloween Horror Nights admission is required.

Survive or Die – A global catastrophe has ruined Earth’s atmosphere. One group of survivors secured a machine that provides clean air. The two other surviving groups are on the hunt to gain control of the machine and are recruiting new members to help them. You can either join them or feed their starving ranks. Which will you choose?

Lair of the Banshees – Travel deep into the forest where evil spirits and horrific creatures of the ancient world roam free. Mother Nature’s magical barrier of vines has been torn away and the modern world has found the entrance to this corrupted grave.

Dead Man’s Wharf – When a fishing vessel named Annabel Lee never returned to the harbor and was lost forever, the wharf was left uninhabited as a memorial to her. Now, a strange fog has rolled into the village. And the long-lost fishermen’s spirits seek to punish the town that left them.

Vamp 1955 – Welcome to Hollywood High School’s 1955 Homecoming Parade. Everything is in place, until the greasers roll into town with fangs instead of switchblades. It’s a procession of chaos with vampires ready to take a bite out of anyone in sight.

A Chance In Hell – Get ready for the audition of a lifetime. Chance may be locked away, but that hasn’t stopped her. As the alarms ring and the bloody remains of those who tried to stop her lie around, she’s busy recruiting cellmates to join her biggest act yet. (I hope I get chosen!)

Live Shows

Academy of Villains: House of Fear – Join this high energy performance troupe of inmates in an explosion of insanity that will thrust you into a realm of mayhem and maniacal terror featuring dance and specialty acts. The Show Must Go On!

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure – No Halloween Horror Nights would be complete without these “excellent” dudes! The Wyld Stallyns return with an all-new Halloween adventure.

Official Map

Here we have the official HHN 26 event map! There’re two ways to tackle the event houses.  You can go straight to house A and work your way back towards the old Twister building and around, but then you may end up back tracking due to where you exit certain houses. OR, you can head straight back to E.T. to begin your houses in the back. With this strategy, you exit each house at the entrance of the next!  I’ve used this strategy multiple times and it works perfectly.

As you can see, AHS, The Exorcist, TWD, and Ghost Town are all in the sound stages. These should prove to have some gorgeous sets!  Houses in these locations tend to become among my favorites.  Krampus will be interesting inside the Shrek building. I hope they make it nice and cold.  And the last four houses are back in the smaller warehouse and pop-up tents!

Tickets and Dates

Halloween Horror Nights 26 opens Friday, September 16 and runs every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, on select Wednesdays, and on Monday, October 31!. Single night tickets begin as low as $55.99 for an add-on ticket sold online and go as high as $82.99, depending on the day of the week.  These are also the prices for Florida Residents.  A non-Florida Resident full price event ticket is $104.99.  If you want to skip the lines, consider adding an Express Pass, which begins at $79.99 and reaches $139.99 depending on the date.

os-universal-halloween-horror-nights-chance-20-001And if you’re like me who likes to go multiple times a season, I recommend purchasing on of the Frequent Fear Passes. These begin with Rush of Fear for only $91.99 and go all the way up to the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass + Express Pass for a whopping $599.99 which includes every single event night!  Definitely review all of the options and dates for these passes to discover which fits you best.

Care to start your night a little early? Then you may want to consider the Scareactor Dining Experience! On event nights of Thursdays to Saturdays, guests can partake in an all-you-can-eat meal located inside the Monsters Cafe. During your meal, you’ll have a Chance to meet multiple scare actors  and grab some photo opportunities! The dining experience costs $49.99 per person and comes with one digital photo download.  Seating takes place between 5pm-7pm and spaces are limited. Learn more about it here.

And lastly, there are private tours ones can sign up for. Called the R.I.P. Tours, guests can purchase this for only $159.99 and gain front of line access to all of the houses, resereved seating, plus more.  Finally, if you’re a behind-the-scenes person, you may be interested in the Behind-the-Screams Tour.  This tour takes you on a 2 1/2 or 5 hour tour of 3 or 6 of the houses where you’ll be able to see and learn about the design and details which go into making the houses each year.
